Long time readers of the blog, (there must be one or two of you), may remember Mr. JIn. The amiable saddle maker who would frequent the Panjiayuan bicycle market in Beijing.
You may also remember, the Bone Shaker, a customized Indian roadster of Mr. Bone himself.
What would happen if these two got together? Good things apparently! See a little over three years ago, the esteemed Mr. Bone, contacted me with regards to aquiring some of Mr. Jin's seat covers...which I did. The mission was to recover a worn out Brooks saddle.
Bad news: The Jin covers were too small for the Brooks. Well, Mr. Jin always did say us Laowai were a bit large!
In anycase, 3 years go between the wheels and opportunity knocks again. This time in the form of a worn out Brooks mattress saddle.
It was beat to death, but Mr. Bone took off the worn out cover and discovered...awesomely...that the Jin skin fit perfectly the skeleton perfectly!
You can see it was rusted and ripped. The old cover was stripped and paint applied.
Next the Jin leather cover was attached...creatively and effectively with brass electrical binding posts.
The very satisfied and creative Mr. Bone claims that the seat is more comfortable than either a mattress or a tensioned leather seat. And why not? It has the best of both!
